}}Ali Mire Awale (so: cali mire cawaale) was a Somali lyricist who was a composer and producer of Soomaaliyeey toosoo, the song that was used to mark Somalia's independence day. He was also the pioneer of the now defunct SSC, the forerunner of Khatumo.[1]

Career

The song he composed was officially adopted from 2000 until 2012. In the 1970s, he was the educational officer for Somalia. He wrote the song in the 1940s.[1] In the 1980s, he taught at colleges in Saudi Arabia.[2] In the 1960, he became one of the first teachers in the Somali city of Shiikh. Mire was also a scholar.[4][3]

Soomaaliyeey toosoo

Although some claim that Awale was a co-author, Awale has insisted the only he wrote and composed the Soomaaliyeey toosoo song. He has also claimed that other lyricists who have claim to be co-founders of the song are incorrect,[4] suggesting that his version is different from Haji Adan.[5] The song was written in the 1970s, although it ceased to be played in the aftermath of the fall of the Siad Barre regime.[6] The song has been played on the independence day of the Somali republic when the colonial flags were lowered and replaced by the Somali flag.[7]

Personal life

Since the start of the civil war, he moved to Virginia, United States,[8] and later to Ohio.[9]
