She is a published researcher and author. Her work in taxonomy has resulted in the description of many species of velvet worms and cephalopods. CareerReid is a graduate of Macquarie University, where she obtained a science degree in 1984, completed a Masters in 1990 and went on to complete a PhD in 1996. She has a particular interest in cephalopods, including cuttlefish and bobtail squids. In 2000, she co-authored the book A Guide to Squid, Cuttlefish and Octopuses of Australasia with Mark Norman.[1] Reid has also previously studied velvet worms.
