{{Short description|Indian Poet And Social Reformer}}Nijasharana Shri Ambigara Chowdaiya (also spelled Caudayya, Chaudaiya, Chaoudayya) was a Saint, Poet and Social reformer in 12th century from Kalyan. He was a ferryman or boatman and joined the Virasaiva Movement. He became famous as a saint because of his Pravachans about awareness. He was a follower of Lingayatism. A cave named after him on the outskirts of Basavakalyan in Karnataka, India. He was known for his two hundred and seventy four Pravachans who inspired the peoples. He fought against harassments of women in society and religious charlatans. He points out that god certainly dwells in the heart of one who is pure in thoughts, words and deed. The Department Of Kannada And Culture celebrates his Jayanti every year.[1][2][3][4][5]

Tribute

  • On 22 January 2019, The Government of Karnataka organised the program and celebrated the Ambigara Jayanti and released a calender in his memori.[6]
