Early lifeLa Mendola was born in Turin, Italy.[1] He graduated in 2009 at Polytechnic of Turin, with a Masters Degree of Media and Cinema Engineering. He won a grant for research about the movie industry in the US. In 2011, he received a certificate in film direction at UCLA extension[1] CareerCinemaIn 2006 he co-founded an Italian movie production company. He worked as producer and director for commercials, feature films, documentaries and short films. He wrote, produced and directed the movie Echoes and won awards at Milan International Film Festival, and the Santa Monica Film Festival. He directed other movies including Just One Shot, Ginger and Bullets and Lost In Gray. He produced Zoo School, Elena (awarded by the Miami Film Festival as Best Short), and A Scrap of Paradise (best documentary award at Annency Film Festival and Euganaea Film Festival). Hyperloop Transportation TechnologiesWhile directing a film, La Mendola was introduced to Bibop Gresta (co-founder and chairman of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies).[2] Gresta was impressed with La Mendola's managerial insights and said, "“He came to Los Angeles from Turin to become a movie director and he got in touch with me.[2] Once, I visited him on a movie set and was impressed by the way he was seamlessly managing 80+ people.” He continued, “When I learned that Andrea was an engineer, I asked him if he wanted to coordinate our engineers around the world, he accepted immediately, but it was ultimately the engineers who elected him to be their Head of Global Operations.”[2] La Mendola helped the company in its implementation of its Great Lakes goal: connecting Chicago and Cleveland via Hyperloop Travel.
