She is also the co–founder and one of the directors of the Theertha International Artists Collective, a progressive art initiative based in Colombo. She currently lives and works in New Delhi, India.[3] Early life and educationPerera has a degree in political science, economics and sociology from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka{{citation needed|date=March 2019}}. Later, she received a graduate diploma in international affairs{{citation needed|date=March 2019}}. At the age of 26, she moved to the United States. For three years from 1988 to 1992, she studied art programs at Santa Barbara, California and Princeton, New Jersey{{citation needed|date=March 2019}}.
