He is known for his work towards menstrual hygiene.[2][3][4] He was awarded the Karmavir Chakra Award by the United Nations[2] for social work in the year 2016. In July 2016, he was conferred the Bharat Nirman Award 2016 by Union Minister Dr. Najma Heptulla for entrepreneurship and excellence in social work at the India International Centre, New Delhi.[5] Chauhan was honoured with International Women Empowerment Award 2019 by IWES, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India & UNICEF. The award was presented by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for WASH project which is the pilot project of Anurag’s NGO, Humans For Humanity. Anurag Chauhan & Prasoon Joshi were the only male recipients of this prestigious award. Other recipients of this award were Mary Kom, P. T. Usha, Bachendri Pal, Raveena Tandon, Deepa Malik, Laxmi Agarwal, Ira Singhal & Sushma Seth.[6] WorksIn 2015, Anurag started a project called WASH - Women, Sanitation, Hygiene, that works towards educating women about menstrual hygiene, providing them sanitary napkins and giving training to them for making bio-degradable sanitary napkins. Chauhan started this after reading an article written about deaths caused due to lack of menstruation hygiene.[7] His cause received support from actress Twinkle Khanna.[8] Anurag runs awareness programs in many villages, slums, schools & colleges of Uttarakhand, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka, reportedly by Dainik Jagaran.[9][10] OtherChauhan acted in a film as a lead actor, shot in Rajasthan. The film is based on Clean India Campaign, an initiative by PM Narendra Modi.[11] In 2016, he launched the Dehradun Literature Festival, an annual literary fest in Dehradun. Ruskin Bond and Shobhaa De are the ambassadors of the festival. [12] In September, 2017, Chauhan started an online compaign #TheDoorChallenge to promote rich Indian cultural heritage and traditional Indian attire among youngsters. The challenge was well received and garnered support from many countries such as Australia, Canada, Bangladesh to name a few.[13] Awards & recognition
