The first release was on 24 January 2017. The release versions 3.0 through to 5.0 were criticised for being bloated from far too many duplicate applications and unnecessary themes, all of these contributed to a very large ISO size. This led to the removal of an uncompromising developer and a refocus of the team on minimalism and producing a lightweight ISO, at this point Nathaniel Maia joined the team as lead developer. Mínimo[4] was the first of this minimal release with a change from the traditional Openbox panel, Tint2 to [https://github.com/jaagr/polybar Polybar.] Also introduced in this release was the original welcome script, named "AL-Hello" which was a nod to the "brother" distribution BunsenLabs. "AL-Hello" is a post install script to aid the user in setting up their desktop with many popular applications and utilities. This aided in minimising the ISO for download as well as offering extra setup options for the user. In the effort to strip down the size of the final ISO, the team removed all but two default GTK/icon themes, as well as all the conky configurations and any redundant applications and utilities. The focus was to provide a small as possible download yet still have a fully functioning desktop upon install with no further application installs required. Mínimo was also the final release to have a release name, following releases followed a numbering pattern of YYYY.MM. 2018.02 release brought a new and improved AL-Hello welcome script and many additions and refining to the ArchLabs experience. 2018.07 saw more improvements to the newly written AL-Installer. Openbox was still the default desktop. With the release of 2018.12 came the removal of the live environment and the post install script "AL-Hello". Options for choosing desktops and window managers as well as a selection of apps have been added to AL-Installer (ALI). Also introduced in this 2018.12 release was the in house AUR (Arch User Repository) Helper, [https://bitbucket.org/natemaia/baph baph] (Basic AUR Package Helper). A simple to use yet powerful installer and updater for AUR packages. Release historyThe current release of ArchLabs Linux is "2018.12" , which was released on 18 December 2018.[2]
