The day that South Korean forces broke through the 38th parallel in 1950 during the Korean War. [1] It is not a national holiday or public day off, but a National Flag Raising Day (국기게양일) to recognize and honor the South Korean military. In 2017, the holiday was celebrated on 28 September rather than the usual date to avoid clashing with the lunar holiday of Chuseok.[2] References1. ^{{cite web |title=Korea to display 'strategic assets' in Armed Forces Day event |url=http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20170914000702 |website=Korea Herald |publisher=Yonhap |accessdate=31 May 2018}} {{SouthKorea-stub}}{{Commonscat|Armed Forces Day (South Korea)}}2. ^{{cite web |last1=Kwon |first1=Jang-ho |title=South Korea shows off military hardware in Armed Forces Day ceremony... with one eye on North Korea |url=http://www.arirang.co.kr/News/News_View.asp?nseq=209170 |website=Arirang |accessdate=31 May 2018}} 6 : Military parades|Observances in South Korea|October observances|Military of South Korea|Armed Forces days|Autumn events in South Korea |
