It is a sibling species of A. franciscana, which is widespread in the Americas and also has been introduced elsewhere. The two are closely related, but completely prevented from interbreeding as they have different water requirements.[1] References1. ^{{cite journal |author1=Alireza Asem |author2=Nasrullah Rastegar-Pouyani |author3=Patricio De Los Rios |year=2010 |title=The genus Artemia Leach, 1819 (Crustacea: Branchiopoda): true and false taxonomical descriptions |journal=Latin American Journal of Aquatic Research |volume=38 |pages=501–506 |url=http://www.alireza-asem.ir/Asem12.pdf}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q4560564}}{{branchiopoda-stub}} 1 : Anostraca |
