The genus was created in 2010 for a group of species formerly placed in Tegenaria and Malthonica, which formed a clade in a phylogenetic analysis. The genus name is an anagram of Tegenaria.[3] The genus was also found to be monophyletic in a later study, which further separated Eratigena from Tegenaria and Malthonica.Species{{As of|2015|11}}, the World Spider Catalog accepted the following species:[1]- Aterigena aculeata (Wang, 1992) – China
- Aterigena aliquoi (Brignoli, 1971) – Sicily
