Peet comes from New Zealand and earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Canterbury in 1990. In 1994, Peet received a doctorate in physics from Stanford University. From 1994 to 1997 Peet worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Princeton University and from 1997 to 2000 as a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, University of California, Santa Barbara. Since 2000, Peet teaches and conducts research as a full professor at the University of Toronto.[2] Peet identifies as non-binary and is a New Zealand citizen with a passport using an unspecified gender. The professor debated fellow University of Toronto colleague Jordan Peterson on Canadian television on several occasions, garnering significant public attention.[2][3][4][5] Awards
