As of the 2015 census it had a population of 16,600 and an area of {{convert|303.16|km2|adj=on}}.[1] It is surrounded by Rulin Town on the north, Tingping Township on the west, Lanrong Township on the east, and Guali Township of Ziyuan County on the south.[1] NameThe name of "Baimaoping" comes from the white elymus repens on the riverbanks in the territory. "Bai" means white, "Mao" means elymus repens and "Ping" means riverbanks.[1] HistoryIn 1995, the townships of Dayang ({{zh|s=大阳乡|links=no}}) and Qingyuan ({{zh|s=清源乡|links=no}}) merged into Baimaoping Township.[2] Administrative divisionAs of 2015, the township is divided into 18 villages: Baimaoping ({{zh|s=白毛坪村|links=no}}), Xiaozhai ({{zh|s=小寨村|links=no}}), Hengbanqiao ({{zh|s=横板桥村|links=no}}), Baitou'ao ({{zh|s=白头坳村|links=no}}), Shengli ({{zh|s=胜利村|links=no}}), Taiping ({{zh|s=太平村|links=no}}), Dachaping ({{zh|s=大岔坪村|links=no}}), Yuanjiashan ({{zh|s=袁家山村|links=no}}), Heping ({{zh|s=和平村|links=no}}), Dayang ({{zh|s=大阳村|links=no}}), Daheng ({{zh|s=大横村|links=no}}), Aoling ({{zh|s=坳岭村|links=no}}), Huangsan ({{zh|s=黄伞村|links=no}}), Zhaungtuanyuan ({{zh|s=壮团园村|links=no}}), Chengxi ({{zh|s=城溪村|links=no}}), Lawu ({{zh|s=蜡屋村|links=no}}), Gewu ({{zh|s=歌舞村|links=no}}), and Katian ({{zh|s=卡田村|links=no}}). GeographyThe township is located in the southeast of Chengbu Miao Autonomous County. It has a total area of {{convert|303.16|km2}}, of which {{convert|282.43|km2}} is land and {{convert|20.73|km2}} is water.[1] The Wushui River ({{zh|s=巫水河|links=no}}) flows through the township. The highest point in the township is Mount Dachongtou ({{zh|s=大冲头|links=no}}) which stands {{convert|1279|m}} above sea level. The second highest point in the township is Mount Dajianling ({{zh|s=大尖岭|links=no}}), which, at {{convert|1196|m}} above sea level. DemographicsIn December 2015, the township had an estimated population of 16,600 and a population density of 55 persons per km2. Miao people is the dominant ethnic group in the township, accounting for 9,900, accounting for 59.64%. There are also 13 ethnic groups, such as Dong, Hui, Zhuang, and Manchu. Among them, there are 3,300 Han people (19.88%) and 2,600 Dong, Manchu, Hui and Zhuang people (15.66%).[3] EconomyThe township's economy is based on nearby mineral resources and agricultural resources. The main agricultural products are lacquer, chestnut, wood, winter bamboo shoots, osmunda, litsea cubeba, etc. The region abounds with manganese, silicon, lead, zinc, and zeolite.
