The Bathurst insurrection of 1830 was an uprising of convict and free native born New South Welshmen against the state. The rising was well planned and resulted in a well defended hold out of bushrangers that resisted local squattocracy cavalry militia and mounted police (a paramilitary group); eventually surrendering to regular troops sent from Sydney.
