Background and battleBanda Singh Bahadur captured almost half Punjab East of Lahore. Local chieftains were bharadwaj Brahmins who fought for Banda Singh and remained influential in Rahon henceforth. He became the master of a small region in Eastern Punjab from river Indus to Satluj. In 1710, Bahadur advanced to Jalandhar, where on his way, he was attacked by local ruler, Shams Khan. Bahadur immediately captured his fort when Khan went to Sultanpur.
