It is located next to the prestigious Bury Road in Newmarket, Suffolk, and became a British Listed building on 30 October 2006. The original construction dates to the 1820s and was built for Francis Russell, 7th Duke of Bedford. Upon his death, the property changed hands multiple times, eventually being bought by horse racing enthusiast James Octavius Machell. In 1892, the property was sold to Henry McCalmont.[2] References1. ^{{cite news|last1=Hamer|first1=Keith|title=Horse Racing: Winning Is an Art Form for O'Brien Hopeful; in Association with Pagebet Three-Year-Old Picked Ahead of Stablemate|url=https://www.questia.com/read/1G1-169249221/horse-racing-winning-is-an-art-form-for-o-brien-hopeful|accessdate=3 March 2016|publisher=The Journal (Newcastle, England){{Subscription required |via=Questia}}|date=29 September 2007|page=88}} {{Coord|52.2497|N|0.4144|W|display=title}}{{horseracing-stub}}2. ^{{cite web|title=Bedford House Stables, Newmarket|url=http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-505812-bedford-house-stables-newmarket-suffolk|website=BritishListedBuildings.co.uk|accessdate=3 March 2016}} 3 : Grade II listed buildings in Suffolk|Racing stables in the United Kingdom|Newmarket, Suffolk |
