It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.[1] It is a two-story red brick flat-roofed L-shaped building with a chamfered corner. The hotel primarily served Santa Fe Railroad personnel.[3] It was built for Mrs. Bertha Rutz, a German immigrant, who ran the hotel and its cafe until her death in 1953.[2] Since 1996 it has been the home of artist Judy Chicago and her husband Donald Woodman, who spent three years converting it into a home.[3] References1. ^1 {{NRISref|version=2013a}} {{National Register of Historic Places}}2. ^1 {{cite web|url={{NRHP url|id=80002574}}|title=National Register of Historic Places Inventory/Nomination: Belen Hotel |publisher=National Park Service|author= |date= |accessdate=May 7, 2018}} With {{NRHP url|id=80002574|photos=y|title=accompanying five photos from 1980}} 3. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.biography.com/people/judy-chicago-9246631|title=Judy Chicago|website=Biography.com|language=en-us|access-date=2018-08-31}} {{NewMexico-NRHP-stub}} 3 : National Register of Historic Places in Valencia County, New Mexico|Hotel buildings completed in 1907|Hotels in New Mexico |
