LifeBenita Otte was born on May 23, 1892, Stuttgart, German Empire. After attending Lyceum in Krefeld, she taught drawing and physical education in Uerdingen.[1] In 1920, she enrolled at the Bauhaus in Weimar, where she was a student and teacher until her 1925 departure.[2] After leaving the Bauhaus Otte served as director of the weaving department at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. In 1929 she reunited with Heinrich Koch who had been the director of the photography department at the Bauhaus. Benita married Koch later that year. [3] Benita and Heinrich moved to Prague following the rise of the Nazi Party. After Heinrich's unexpected death in 1934, Benita returned to Germany where she continued to teach.[3] Benita died in 1976 in Bielefeld, Germany. Benita Koch-Otte street (Benita-Otte-Straße) in Erfurt is named after her.
