Since 2 July 2016, he has represented the federal Division of Tangney in the Australian House of Representatives for the Liberal Party.[1] He is the former state director of the Liberal Party in Western Australia. Prior to entering parliament, Morton worked as a bus driver, as an adviser to the Howard Government, and in the private sector for one of Australia's largest home builders, BGC.[1] He grew up in New South Wales, and after completing a Bachelor of Arts at the Australian National University,[1] returned to his home town and unsuccessfully stood for election as the Liberal Party candidate in the safe Labor seat of Wyong in 2003 and 2007.[2] At the 2016 federal election, Morton successfully ran as the Liberal candidate against sitting member Dennis Jensen, who had been disendorsed by the Liberals and was running as an independent.[3] References1. ^1 2 {{cite web|title=Mr Ben Morton MP|url=http://www.aph.gov.au/Senators_and_Members/Parliamentarian?MPID=265931|website=Senators and Members|publisher=Parliament of Australia|accessdate=18 September 2017}} {{s-start}}{{s-par|au}}{{s-bef|before=Dennis Jensen}}{{s-ttl|title=Member for Tangney|years=2016–present}}{{s-inc}}{{s-end}}{{Current Western Australia Representatives}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Morton, Ben}}{{Australia-Liberal-politician-stub}}2. ^{{cite news|title=Dennis menacing|url=https://heraldonlinejournal.com/2016/05/27/dennis-menacing/|accessdate=18 September 2017|work=Fremantle Herald|date=27 May 2016}} 3. ^{{cite news|title=Federal election 2016: Dennis Jensen to contest WA seat of Tangney|url=http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/federal-election-2016-dennis-jensen-to-contest-wa-seat-of-tangney/news-story/9a127a3cba62cfcfedc9cbff9cc3ea27|accessdate=18 September 2017|work=The Australian|date=9 May 2016}} 7 : 1981 births|Living people|Liberal Party of Australia members of the Parliament of Australia|Members of the Australian House of Representatives for Tangney|Members of the Australian House of Representatives|21st-century Australian politicians|Australian monarchists |
