Nakubuwai previously played for the Gold Coast Titans in the NRL and was a member of Fiji's squad for the 2017 World Cup. BackgroundNakuwabi was born in Leeton, New South Wales, Australia to Fijian parents Pio and Eseta.[5] His father, then known as Pio Kubuwai, was a dual-code rugby international for Fiji during the 1990s, and is known as one of the pioneers of rugby league in Fiji.[6] Nakubuwai grew up playing rugby union from the age of eight for the Leeton Phantoms,[5] and later took up rugby league at a junior level at age fourteen, playing for the Yanco-Wamoon Hawks and Bidgee Hurricanes.{{citation needed|date=February 2018}} Having been spotted by the Melbourne Storm, Nakubwai moved to Melbourne after completing his Higher School Certificate to play in their S. G. Ball Cup team.[7] Playing careerEarly careerNakubuwai joined Melbourne's National Youth Competition team in 2015, playing 42 matches over two seasons.[8] He made his international debut for Fiji against Papua New Guinea in May 2016.[9] In December 2016, Nakubuwai signed with the Gold Coast Titans.[10] 2017Nakubuwai spent most of the 2017 season playing for one of the Titans' feeder clubs, the Tweed Heads Seagulls, in the Queensland Cup. He was called upon to play two NRL matches for the Titans at the end of the season.[11] On 29 November 2017, it was revealed Nakubuwai had signed a two-year deal to join English side Salford Red Devils in the Super League.[12][13] References1. ^{{cite web|last=Baselala|first=Elenoa|date=28 October 2017|title=Kubuwai re-born|url=http://www.fijitimes.com/story.aspx?id=421790|publisher=Fiji Times|accessdate=14 February 2018}} 2. ^[https://www.loverugbyleague.com/stats/players/Ben-Nakubuwai/ loverugbyleague] 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/players/ben-nakubuwai/summary.html|title=Ben Nakubuwai - Career Stats & Summary - Rugby League Project|publisher=Rugby League Project}} 4. ^[https://www.loverugbyleague.com/stats/players/benjamin-nakubuwai/ love rugby league] 5. ^1 {{cite web|date=17 June 2008|title=Rep Honours for Big Ben|url=http://www.phantomsjunior.rugbynet.com.au/default.asp?id=131404|publisher=Leeton Phantoms Junior Rugby Club|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20080719050725/http://www.phantomsjunior.rugbynet.com.au/default.asp?id=131404|archivedate=19 July 2008}} 6. ^{{cite web|last=Cabenatabua|first=Leone|date=2 March 2014|title=Inducted|url=http://fijisun.com.fj/2014/03/02/inducted/|publisher=Fiji Sun|accessdate=14 February 2018}} 7. ^{{cite web|last=Gray|first=John|date=1 October 2013|title=Storm front - Hurricanes young gun on Melbourne's radar|url=http://www.irrigator.com.au/story/1811082/storm-front-hurricanes-young-gun-on-melbournes-radar/|publisher=Irrigator|accessdate=20 August 2017}} 8. ^{{cite web|title=N|url=https://nycdatabase.org/players/n/|publisher=NYC Database}} 9. ^{{cite web|url=https://matchcentre.nrl.com/match/2016/133/20161330130/#team-lists|title=NRL Match Centre 2017|website=matchcentre.nrl.com|accessdate=20 August 2017}} 10. ^{{cite web|last=Webeck|first=Tony|date=23 December 2016|title=Titans snare 'next Petero' from Storm|url=https://www.nrl.com/news/2016/12/23/titans-snare-next-petero-from-storm/|publisher=NRL.com|accessdate=14 February 2018}} 11. ^{{cite web|date=18 August 2017|title=Nakubuwai reflects on Titans debut|url=https://www.qrl.com.au/news/2017/08/18/nakubuwai-reflects-on-titans-debut/|publisher=QRL.com.au|accessdate=14 February 2018}} 12. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/nrl-market-watch-panthers-code-switch-consideration-knights-contract-twist/news-story/45ad45917a5cd394331f28fc77110b53|title=NRL Market Watch: Panther’s code switch consideration, Knights contract twist|publisher=Fox Sports Australia|date=29 November 2017|accessdate=24 January 2018}} 13. ^{{cite web|date=1 December 2017|title=Ben Nakubuwai: Salford Red Devils sign Fiji international|url=https://www.bbc.com/sport/rugby-league/42194542|publisher=BBC|accessdate=14 February 2018}} External links
