In the 18 months before league football was suspended for the duration of the Second World War, he played in 56 matches in all competitions and scored nine goals.[2] Goffey served as an Army physical training instructor. He was evacuated from Dunkirk in 1940,[2] and went on to serve in Italy where he was mentioned in despatches in 1944. After the war, he settled in Northampton where he worked on the railway.[3] He died in the town in 1991 at the age of 80.[4] References1. ^1 {{cite book |last=Joyce |first=Michael |title=Football League Players' Records 1888 to 1939 |publisher=SoccerData |location=Nottingham |date=2004 |page=102 |isbn=978-1-899468-67-6}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Goffey, Bert}}{{England-footy-forward-1910s-stub}}2. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 7 {{cite book |first1=Tim |last1=Carder |first2=Roger |last2=Harris |title=Albion A–Z: A Who's Who of Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. |publisher=Goldstone Books |location=Hove |date=1997 |page=96 |isbn=978-0-9521337-1-1}} 3. ^{{cite news |title=Footballer 'mentioned' |newspaper=Northampton Mercury |date=8 September 1944 |page=7}} 4. ^{{cite web |url=https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVZH-R5YB |title=Herbert Henry Goffey |work=England and Wales Death Registration Index 1837–2007 |accessdate=28 August 2018 |via=FamilySearch |registration=yes}} 13 : 1911 births|1991 deaths|People from Sevenoaks|English footballers|Association football inside forwards|Sevenoaks Town F.C. players|Higham Ferrers Town F.C. players|Northampton Town F.C. players|Bristol Rovers F.C. players|Northampton Nomads F.C. players|Norwich City F.C. players|Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. players|English Football League players |
