Westenhanger railway station is on the South Eastern Main Line in England, serving the villages of Westenhanger and Stanford, as well as Folkestone Racecourse, in Kent. It is {{convert|64|mi|15|chain|km}} down the line from London Charing Cross and is situated between {{rws|Ashford International}} and {{rws|Sandling}}. The station and all trains that call are operated by Southeastern.

British Rail proposed the closure of the station as from 3 February 1969.[1] Objections were made which were considered by a Transport Users' Consultative Committee, after which the Minister of Transport decided against closure.[1]

The station is un-manned; a PERTIS 'permit to travel' machine is located on the 'up' (London-bound) platform. The one-time station building, on the 'up' side, was restored in March 2009.{{Citation needed|date=October 2010}}

Westenhanger (Folkestone) Racecourse station

There was a station about 250 metres west of Westenhanger station which was built to serve the adjacent Folkestone Racecourse. It was only used on race days. It closed in the 1960s. As at January 2012 there are substantial remains of the two platforms. High Speed 1 runs parallel to the station.[2]

Service

From January 2015 the off-peak service has been reduced from 2 trains per hour in each direction to 1:

  • 1 tph to London Charing Cross
  • 1 tph to Dover Priory[3]
