The Blue Ribbon Commission on Race, Memorials and Public Spaces is a committee in Charlottesville, Virginia which the city established in 2016 to address the Charlottesville historic monument controversy. In August 2016 Sue Lewis accepted an appointment to the commission.[1] By September 2016 various city projects had aligned with the work and research of the commission.[2] In November 2016 the commission published a recommendation to keep the monuments in place.[3][4] Charlottesville mayor Michael Signer said that he supported and sought to follow the commission's "transform in place" recommendation.[5] References1. ^{{cite web |last1=Suarez |first1=Chris |title=Sue Lewis appointed to commission on race and memorials |url=https://www.dailyprogress.com/news/local/sue-lewis-appointed-to-commission-on-race-and-memorials/article_5512adb4-63db-11e6-a7a4-8303480c33d1.html |website=The Daily Progress |language=en |date=16 August 2016}} 2. ^{{cite web |last1=Suarez |first1=Chris |title=Creation of blue ribbon panel boosts initiatives already underway in city |url=https://www.dailyprogress.com/news/local/creation-of-blue-ribbon-panel-boosts-initiatives-already-underway-in/article_d538f7bc-7ebd-11e6-9c6a-6b437710f130.html |website=The Daily Progress |language=en |date=19 September 2016}} 3. ^{{cite web |last1=Suarez |first1=Chris |title=Panel votes to recommend keeping statues in their parks |url=https://www.dailyprogress.com/news/local/panel-votes-to-recommend-keeping-statues-in-their-parks/article_30049e90-a0a5-11e6-80de-f704bb943291.html |website=The Daily Progress |language=en |date=1 November 2016}} 4. ^{{cite web |last1=Hoerauf |first1=Daniel |title=Blue Ribbon Commission shares recommendations with community |url=http://www.cavalierdaily.com/article/2016/11/blue-ribbon-commission-shares-recommendations-with-community |website=The Cavalier Daily |publisher=University of Virginia |date=11 November 2016}} 5. ^{{cite web |last1=Signer |first1=Mike |authorlink1=Michael Signer |title='These Monuments Were Transformed From Equestrian Statues Into Lightning Rods' |url=https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/08/charlottesville-mayors-remarks-regarding-the-robert-e-lee-statue/537366/ |website=The Atlantic |date=18 August 2017}} External links
