The company was founded in 1972, with headquarters in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, and a distribution and sales center in Ogden, Utah.[1] Its products include prisoner and officer uniforms, bedding, toiletries, cleaning supplies and security and restraint equipment.[2] HistoryAccording to the company's website, founder Bob Barker, a former newspaper editor from North Carolina, initially started the company selling supplies and equipment to restaurants. The company began supplying to jails and prisons in the southeastern United States in the early 1980s.[3] Since 1995, the company has been awarded at least $13 million in federal prison system contracts in the United States, representing about 100 federal prisons across the country.[4][5] In 2016, the company began a $4.15 million distribution center expansion in Fuquay-Varina.[6] A 2008 report by SweatFree Communities, a campaign of the International Labor Rights Forum, alleged use of Bangladesh-based sweatshop labor by the company.[7] Company president Robert Barker Jr. responded by stating the company only worked with suppliers that "share our commitment to the health and safety of those working in this industry."[8] In 2009, the company founded the philanthropic Bob Barker Company Foundation, with a focus on reducing recidivism.[4][9] While prison lore has suggested that the company is affiliated with game show host Bob Barker, there is no relationship between the two.[10] References1. ^{{cite web |title=Company Overview of Bob Barker Company, Inc. |url=https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=4372192 |website=Bloomberg |accessdate=26 July 2018}} 2. ^{{cite web |title=Products : Jail and Correctional Supplies |url=https://www.bobbarker.com/products.html |website=www.bobbarker.com |accessdate=26 July 2018 |language=en}} 3. ^{{cite web |title=History |url=https://www.bobbarker.com/history |website=www.bobbarker.com |accessdate=26 July 2018 |language=en}} 4. ^1 {{cite web |title=Prison Supply Chains Reveal Some Surprises |url=https://truthout.org/articles/is-orange-the-new-green/ |website=Truthout |accessdate=26 July 2018}} 5. ^{{cite web |title=FPDS-NG ezSearch |url=https://www.fpds.gov/ezsearch/fpdsportal?s=FPDSNG.COM&q=Bob+Barker+GLOBAL_VENDOR_NAME%3A%22BOB+BARKER+COMPANY++INC.%22%20%20AGENCY_NAME%3A%22Federal%20Prison%20System%22&indexName=awardfull&templateName=1.4.4 |website=www.fpds.gov |accessdate=26 July 2018}} 6. ^{{cite news |last1=Gargan |first1=Henry |title=Detention supplier Bob Barker Co. plans $4.15M expansion of Fuquay-Varina facility |url=https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/community/southwest-wake-news/article116652023.html |accessdate=26 July 2018 |work=News & Observer |date=November 23, 2016 |language=en}} 7. ^{{cite web |title=Subsidizing Sweatshops Factsheet for New Jersey |url=http://www.sweatfree.org/docs/SubsidizingSweatshops_NewJersey.pdf |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20151102063237/http://www.sweatfree.org/docs/SubsidizingSweatshops_NewJersey.pdf |archivedate=2 November 2015}} 8. ^{{cite news |last1=Anderson |first1=Lynn |title=Group alleges labor abuse -- baltimoresun.com |url=http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/bal-md.sweatshop03jul03,0,6450297.story |work=Baltimore Sun |date=July 3, 2008 |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20080905051318/http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/bal-md.sweatshop03jul03,0,6450297.story |archivedate=5 September 2008}} 9. ^{{cite web |title=History |url=http://www.bobbarkercompanyfoundation.org/history/ |website=Bob Barker Company Foundation |accessdate=26 July 2018 |date=10 November 2013}} 10. ^{{cite web |title=FACT CHECK: Bob Barker Prison Toiletries |url=https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/pa-barker/ |website=Snopes.com |accessdate=26 July 2018}} External links
