It is a child agency of the Ministry of Interior, Justice and Peace that is tasked with spreading Bolivarian propaganda throughout the internet. HistoryIn May 2017, documents from the Ministry of Interior, Justice and Peace leaked surrounding the foundation of the Bolivarian Army of Trolls.[1][2] The Army of Trolls was created to reinforce a militaristic mindset among its members, a defining characteristic of the Bolivarian government.[2] OrganizationThe Army of Trolls is organized in a military-like structure which includes:[1][5]
FunctionsPersonnel involved are tasked with adopting the personas of accounts that range from being a chavista, an opposition-supporter or a sexual catfish.[3] Trolls are also responsible for spreading disinformation and fake news.[4] ReceptionVenezuelan NGO Instituto Prensa y Sociedad stated that the Bolivarian Army of Trolls places "journalism, freedom of expression and democracy at risk" and that its creation "extends the surveillance, opacity and censorship status to the internet that the Venezuelan government has increasingly implemented through regulations, agencies and unconstitutional orders".[2] References1. ^1 {{cite news |title=A Global Guide to State-Sponsored Trolling |url=https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2018-government-sponsored-cyber-militia-cookbook/ |accessdate=13 October 2018 |work=Bloomberg |date=19 July 2018}} 2. ^1 2 {{Cite web|url=https://ipysvenezuela.org/alerta/gobierno-incentiva-la-vigilancia-redes-sociales-la-difusion-noticias-falsas/|title=Gobierno impulsa la vigilancia en redes sociales y la difusión de noticias falsas|last=|first=|date=7 June 2017|website=Instituto Prensa y Sociedad|language=es-ES|archive-url=|archive-date=|dead-url=|access-date=2018-10-13}} 3. ^{{cite news |title=Gobierno crea proyecto "Ejército de Trolls" contra la "guerra mediática" - LaPatilla.com |url=https://www.lapatilla.com/2018/10/12/gobierno-crea-proyecto-ejercito-de-trolls-contra-la-guerra-mediatica/ |accessdate=13 October 2018 |work=La Patilla |date=12 October 2018 |language=es-ES}} 4. ^1 {{cite web |title=Proyecto de Formación del Ejército de Trolls de la Revolución Bolivariana |url=https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2018-government-sponsored-cyber-militia-cookbook/data/Ejercito_De_Trolls_Venezuela.pdf |publisher=Ministry of Interior, Justice and Peace |accessdate=13 October 2018}} 3 : Propaganda in Venezuela|Internet manipulation and propaganda|Disinformation operations |
