He is the co-founder of Sageworks, a fintech company acquired by Accel-KKR in 2018. He also founded the organizations "Inmates to Entrepreneurs" and the "Brian Hamilton Foundation."[1][2] Early life and educationHamilton grew up in Milford, Connecticut. [3] He attended Fairfield College Preparatory School, and, the first in his family to attend college, received a bachelor's degree from Sacred Heart University,[4] and then a MBA from Fuqua School of Business at Duke University [3] CareerHamilton ran his own consulting business in Durham, North Carolina from 1990 to 1996.[3] He offered consulting to people trying to start businesses. He also gave lectures and taught college courses. During a small business course, Hamilton mentioned the idea of software that would make reading financial statements easier for executives.[5] One of the students, Sarah Tourville, liked the idea. They would go on to form the company Sageworks in 1998.[3] Sageworks was one of the first fintech companies.[6] It grew into a firm of approximately 400 employees and was acquired by Accel-KKR in 2018. Hamilton sold his stake in the company as part of the acquisition.[7] Charitable workHamilton was a lecturer at prisons, being under contract with the SBA to help with a minority set-aside program.[3] One of his clients, Rev. Robert Harris, asked him to be part of a prison ministry where Hamilton would discuss entrepreneurship.[3] This led to Hamilton forming Inmates to Entrepreneurs, a program offers training and mentoring for people who have criminal records, with graduates going on to start their own businesses.[8][9] In addition he founded the Brian Hamilton Foundation, an organization that provides advice for young people and others who want to become entrepreneurs.[10] He has provided commentary as an expert for The Wall Street Journal, MSNBC and Fox Business Network,[3] and also sat on the board of trustees for Sacred Heart University.[11] References1. ^{{cite news |last1=Babakhan |first1=Jen |title=I Left a Six-Figure Job to Work with Prisoners |url=https://www.rd.com/true-stories/inspiring/left-six-figure-job-work-prisoners/ |publisher=Reader's Digest}} 2. ^{{cite news |last1=Joyner |first1=April |title=CEO Passions |publisher=Inc.com (print only) |date=April 2010}} 3. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 {{cite news |title=Out on your own |url=http://businessnc.com/out-on-your-owncategory/ |publisher=North Carolina Business |date=20 March 2012}} 4. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.fairfieldcitizenonline.com/news/article/Community-Postings-SHU-dedicates-two-buildings-12378462.php|title=Community Postings: SHU dedicates two buildings, Donate blood...|date=24 November 2017|publisher=Fairfield Citizen}} 5. ^{{cite news |title=2017 Innovation Awards – Spark Award winner: Brian Hamilton |url=https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2017/10/06/2017-innovation-awards-spark-award-winner-brian.html |publisher=Triangle Business Journal |date=6 October 2017}} 6. ^{{cite news |last1=Ryan |first1=Vincent |title=Sageworks Sold to Accel-KKR |url=http://ww2.cfo.com/ma/2018/05/sageworks-sold-accel-kkr/ |publisher=CFO |date=22 May 2018}} 7. ^{{cite news |last1=Ohnesorge |first1=Lauren K. |title=20-year-old Raleigh fintech firm acquired |url=https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2018/05/17/20-year-old-raleigh-fintech-firm-acquired.html |publisher=Triangle Business Journal |date=17 May 2018}} 8. ^{{cite news |last1=Larson |first1=Eric |title=Workshop teaches prison inmates how to start a business |url=https://dukelibraries.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p15957coll13/id/88176/ |publisher=The Duke Chronicle |date=24 April 1992}} 9. ^{{cite news |title=CEO leads prison class on how to start a business |url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/436413131/?terms=%22Brian%2BHamilton%22%2BInmates%2BEntrepreneurs |publisher=The Rock Island Argus |date=14 February 2010}} 10. ^{{cite news |last1=Mullen |first1=Rodger |title=Speaker encourages entrepreneurship as path to success |url=https://www.fayobserver.com/news/20181120/speaker-encourages-entrepreneurship-as-path-to-success |publisher=Fayetteville Observer |date=20 November 2018}} 11. ^{{cite news |title=SHU Welcomes Alumnus Back to Board of Trustees |url=https://www.sacredheart.edu/aboutshu/news/newsstories/2017/may/shu-welcomes-alumnus-back-to-board-of-trustees.html |publisher=Sacred Heart University |date=30 May 2017}} External links
