A.G. Delamater wrote the lyrics. Will R. Anderson composed the music. The song was published by M. Witmark & Sons in New York, New York. On the cover is a group of "greater Vitagraph players" sitting around a table, writing letters. Behind them is a service flag with a red border and one blue star.[1][2] It was written for both voice and piano.[3] The song opens with a wounded soldier laying on a cot. He tells a nurse that the only thing that will cure his homesickness is hearing from his "old home town". The chorus is as follows:[4] Bring me a letter from my old home town, One with jokes from my old pal, Jim Brown. Bring me a letter from that girl of mine, Saying that she's longing for me all the time Bring me a letter from my proud old dad, Who knows that we are winning, and I'll bet he's glad. But more than any other, A line from my old mother; Bring me a letter from my home town. Sheet musicThe sheet music can be found at Pritzker Military Museum & Library.[5] PerformersThe song was performed by Billy Jones for Edison Blue Amberol[6] and by Will R. Anderson for Columbia.[7] References1. ^{{cite book |last1=Parker |first1=Bernard S. |date=2007 |volume=1 |title=World War I Sheet Music |location=Jefferson |publisher=McFarland & Company, Inc. |page=62 |isbn=0-7864-2798-1}} {{1910s-song-stub}}2. ^{{cite book|last1=Paas|first1=John Roger|title=America Sings of War: American Sheet Music from World War I|date=2014|publisher=Harrassowitz Verlag|location=Wiesbaden|isbn=9783447102780|page=344}} 3. ^{{cite web |url=https://www.loc.gov/item/2013568698/ |title=Bring me a letter from my old home town |author= |website=Library of Congress |publisher=Library of Congress |access-date=12 January 2016}} 4. ^{{cite book |last1=Vogel |first1=Frederick G. |date=1995 |title=World War I Songs: A History and Dictionary of Popular American Patriotic Tunes, with Over 300 Complete Lyrics |location=Jefferson |publisher=McFarland & Company, Inc. |pages=301–302 |isbn=0-89950-952-5}} 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.worldcat.org/title/bring-me-a-letter-from-my-old-home-town/oclc/40784462&referer=brief_results |title=Bring me a letter from my old home town |author= |website=OCLC WorldCat |publisher=OCLC Worldcat |access-date=12 January 2016}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.alexandria.ucsb.edu/lib/ark:/48907/f3zs2vfb|title=Bring me a letter from my old home town - Alexandria Digital Research Library - Alexandria Digital Research Library|website=www.alexandria.ucsb.edu}} 7. ^{{cite book|last1=Brooks|first1=Tim|last2=Rust|first2=Brian|title=The Columbia Master Book Discography: Principal U.S. matrix series. 1910-1924|date=1999|publisher=Greenwood Publishing Group|isbn=0313308225|page=536|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=KTp4ngY8v34C&pg=PA536&lpg=PA536}} 2 : Songs of World War I|1918 songs |
