He received both an S.M. in Management in 1974 and a Ph.D. in Applied Economics in 1978 from the MIT Sloan School of Management. CareerA former senior economist at Arthur D. Little, Stangle and fellow economist Michael F. Koehn co-founded Analysis Group in 1981. Stangle served as Analysis Group's CEO or Co-CEO from 1981 to 2004 and as Chairman of the firm’s Board of Directors from 1981 to 2016. He has worked in research projects on issues relating to antitrust, regulation, bankruptcy, ERISA, and securities matters. Stangle specializes in industrial organization, applied microeconomics, and finance. He provides expert testimony in litigation cases on class certification, market definition, entry conditions, competitive effects, securities valuation, and damages.[2] Global publications have distributed his views on a number of topics, including The Economic Times in an article about securities class actions in India.[3] He also co-authored an article on behavioral finance and the efficient market hypothesis with economists Burton Malkiel and Sendhil Mullainathan.[4] In 2012, Bates College created the annual "Stangle Award for Distinguished Service" to commemorate Stangle's continued dedication both to the college and to career development among young professionals.[5] Memberships, boards, and community involvementStangle is a member of the American Economic Association. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Wellington Trust Company, N,A., and is also an independent trustee of The Marsico Investment Fund. From 1994 until 1998, Stangle was a member of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Technology Development Corporation (now MassVentures). He also served as a member of the Visiting Committee of the Economics Department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2002 through 2008.[6] Throughout the years, Stangle has volunteered with his alma mater, Bates College.
