}} Bryobium irukandjianum, commonly known as the small urchin orchid,[2] is an epiphytic or lithophytic clump-forming orchid that has small, fleshy green pseudobulbs, each with two or three leaves and between seven and twelve small, short-lived, whitish to dull pink flowers. This orchid only occurs in tropical North Queensland. DescriptionBryobium irukandjianum is an epiphytic or lithophytic herb that forms small, dense clumps with small, oval pseudobulbs {{convert|8-12|mm|in|sigfig=2}} long and wide. Each pseudobulb has two or three linear to lance-shaped leaves {{convert|50-120|mm|in|sigfig=2}} long and {{convert|6-10|mm|in|sigfig=2}} wide. Between seven and twelve short-lived, self-pollinating, whitish to dull pink, resupinate flowers about {{convert|3|mm|in|sigfig=2}} long and wide are arranged on a flowering stem {{convert|10-15|mm|in|sigfig=2}} long. The sepal and petals are about {{convert|2|mm|in|sigfig=2}} long and {{convert|0.5|mm|in|sigfig=2}} wide. The labellum is about {{convert|1.5|mm|in|sigfig=2}} long and {{convert|1|mm|in|sigfig=2}} wide with its tip turned down. Flowering occurs from October to December.[2][3]Taxonomy and namingThe small urchin orchid was first formally described in 1955 by Stanley F. Goessling-St Cloud who gave it the name Eria irukandjiana and published the description in The North Queensland Naturalist.[1][4][5] In 2002 Mark Clements and David Jones changed the name to Bryobium irukandjianum.[6] The specific epithet (irukandjianum) refers to the Irukandji people who lived in the area where this orchid grows. The ending -anum is a Latin suffix meaning "pertaining to" or "belonging to".[7] Distribution and habitatBryobium irukandjianum mostly grows on the upper branches of trees in humid situations. It is found in Queensland between the McIlwraith Range and the Atherton Tableland.[2][3]References1. ^1 2 {{WCSP |222186 |Bryobium irukandjianum}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q15495072}}2. ^1 2 {{cite book|last1=Jones|first1=David L.|title=A complete guide to native orchids of Australia including the island territories|date=2006|publisher=New Holland|location=Frenchs Forest, N.S.W.|isbn=1877069124|page=462}} 3. ^1 {{cite web |title=Bryobium irukandjianum |url=http://keys.trin.org.au:8080/key-server/data/08090a09-0d0e-410b-860c-020705070e0e/media/Html/Bryobium_irukandjianum.htm|publisher=Trin keys: Australian Tropical Rainforest Orchids |accessdate=11 January 2019}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=Eria irukandjiana|url= https://id.biodiversity.org.au/reference/apni/33245|publisher=APNI|accessdate=11 January 2019}} 5. ^{{cite web |title=Goessling-St Cloud, Stanley F.
