Bangalore Srinivasa Madhava Rao (shortly BS Madhava Rao) was a mathematician and physicist hailing from Chamarajanagar.[1] He was a disciplined scholar and scientist. BiographyHe was born on 29 May 1900 at Bangalore. He did his D.Sc (1938)[2] Degree from University of Calcutta specializing in pure applied mathematics and theoretical physics. He worked as Professor of Mathematics and later principal at Central college, Bangalore.[3] He worked as Professor of Ballistics, Institute of Armament Technology, Pune (1955–60).[4] He workes ad Professor of Applied mathematics in University of Pune from 1960 to 1965.[5][6] His earlier work was on classical algebraic geometry and analytical dynamics. Under the influence of Max Born and in collaboration with C V Raman and Homi Bhabha, Madhavarao entered the mainstream of theoretical physics. To deal with the divergence problem in field theory, Born had introduced a nonlinear theory which received much attention as a model theory. Madhavarao wrote eight research papers and his doctoral thesis on this work.[7] Notable work has been done in algebra by a large number of Indian mathematicians. B. S. Madhava Rao, Thiruvcnkatachar, and Vcnkatachal Aiyengar discussed some aspects of non-commutative algebras. B. S.
