There are a number of coal mines operating there (and beyond into adjacent localities), including Burton Coal Mine (including Burton, Broadmeadow, Wallanbah pits),[3] Lancewood, Wards Well, West Burton, New Lenton, Kerlong, Burton, Plumtree, Ironbark No 1, and Talwood.
