Her books concern architectural history as well as the negotiation between the built environment and people within the urban landscape.[2] BiographyCarole Lewis was born in Brooklyn, New York. She studied at Mount Holyoke College[3] and Barnard College, graduating from the latter in 1956.[4] The same year she married Richard Rifkind.[3] She has taught at Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation and has directed programs for the Hudson River Museum, the Municipal Art Society and Partners for Livable Places.[2] She is also a consultant on historic preservation and tourism planning.[5] In 2011, she and her husband set up "The Richard Rifkind and Carole Lewis Rifkind ’56 Faculty Support Fund" at Barnard to assist teachers in the early years of their career.[4] WorksBooksIn chronological order.
