Isabella Caroline McMillen (born 23 September 1954)[1] is an Australian medical and health academic and the incumbent Chief Scientist of South Australia since October 2018.[2] She was the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Newcastle from 2011 to 2018.[3]

Prior to moving to New South Wales, McMillen had been Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President of Research and Innovation at the University of South Australia from 2005 to 2011 and the head of physiology at the University of Adelaide from 1992. She was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and grew up in England. She is a graduate of both the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford. Her early research focused on the effects of prenatal nutrition on adult diseases.[4]
