It proved fatal. This was the country's deadliest such disaster since the Stardust fire.[1] The fire led to debate about the squalid conditions in which many citizens of Ireland live.[2] Taoiseach Enda Kenny visited the scene and announced that flags would be flown at half-mast.[3] Books of condolence were opened throughout the country.[4] President Michael D.
