She was born in Richmond, Surrey to Thomas Morrison, who worked as a metal broker in Spain and was a company director, and Judith Wakefield Morrison.[4] She graduated from Girton College, Cambridge with First Class Honours, but she was not allowed a degree because she was a woman.[3] In 1922 she and Mary Pickup, Mary Sykes, and Maud Crofts became the first women in England to qualify as solicitors; Morrison was the first of them to finish her articles, and was the first woman admitted to the role of solicitor.[3] In 1927, she married fellow solicitor Ambrose Appelbe, who founded a firm in London that is still active. They later divorced, but she continued to work with him professionally, and worked until her death in Hertford, age 62.[5] She was also a Soroptimist.[6] See also
