The stone cashel walls are probably early Iron Age (5th–1st century BC), but could be earlier. It could be the Rath Clochair mentioned in the Annals of the Four Masters: 871 BC "Lugaid Íardonn son of Énna Derg, the 41st king of Ireland, was killed by Sírlám son of Finn in the battle of Rath Clochair."[3] Restoration work took place in the 19th century.[4][5] DescriptionThe fort has an internal diameter of {{Convert|26|m|abbr=on}}. The walls are {{Convert|2.3|m|abbr=on}} high and {{Convert|4.2|m|abbr=on}} thick. Five stairways lead to the top of the wall. The entrance is called the Steward's Gate. There is a mural passage and two souterrains. The souterrains have dry stone walls and are roofed with large stone flags.[6][7][8] References1. ^{{cite web|url=https://books.google.ie/books?id=ca1QAQAAIAAJ&dq=%22cashelmore%22%20sligo&focus=searchwithinvolume&q=%22cashelmore%22|title=The statutory rules and orders revised|date=1 January 1904|publisher=|via=Google Books}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.irishmegaliths.org.uk/sligo.htm|title=County Sligo - selected monuments|first=Anthony|last=Weir|publisher=}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.facebook.com/CelticDruidTemple/photos/?tab=album&album_id=853902451302410|title=Celtic Druid Temple - Ireland's Druidschool - Photos - Facebook|publisher=}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.exploringsligo.net/html/heritage/cler.htm|title=Exploring Sligo - A Study of Sligo's Heritage|publisher=}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.loughgaralakesandlegends.ie/north-roscommon/clogher-stone-fort|title=Clogher Stone Fort - Lough Gara Lakes & Legends|publisher=}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://irishantiquities.bravehost.com/sligo/clogher/clogher.html|title=Clogher Stone Fort|publisher=}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.irishstones.org/place.aspx?p=770|title=Clogher|publisher=}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.colemanirishmusic.com/coleman_country/clogherstonefort.htm|title=Coleman Country - Tour 1 - Explore the sights of south Sligo|publisher=}} 2 : National Monuments in County Sligo|Archaeological sites in County Sligo |
