The design is out of production.[1][2] The boat was built by Catalina Yachts in the United States.[1] DesignThe Catalina 309 is a small recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass. It has a fractional sloop rig, an internally-mounted spade-type rudder and a fixed fin keel. It displaces {{convert|9800|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|4000|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of ballast.[1] The boat has a draft of {{convert|6.25|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the standard keel and {{convert|4.4|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the optional shoal draft wing keel.[1] The boat is fitted with a Japanese Yanmar 3YM20 diesel engine of {{convert|21|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}}.
