She is currently a professor at the University of Auckland, a joint appointment between the physics and chemistry departments.[1] She is also associated with the Dodd-Walls CoRE and the MacDiarmid Institute.[2] In 2015, Simpson co-founded the Science Scholars Program at the University of Auckland, along with Professor Richard Easther and Professor David Edward Williams.[3] CareerSimpson did a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Virginia, followed by a Ph.D. at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine entitled 'Functional dynamics in metalloporphyrin systems.' After making tenure at Case Western Reserve University,[4] she moved to the University of Auckland to set up her own lab, the 'Photon Factory'.[2][5] Her work involves ultra-fast pulsed lasers and studying their effects on materials. In 2018, Simpson was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand.[6] Sperm sortingSimpson set up a spin-off company, Engender Technologies, which uses microfluidic and photonic technology in sex-sorting of cattle sperm.[7][8][9][10] Selected works
