Ball and first built in 1970. The design is out of production.[1][2] ProductionThe boat was built by C&C Yachts in Canada, with some also produced in the United States.[1] The design was developed into the Trapper 500 and built in the UK.[1] An "unauthorized copy" was built in Germany as the Koreneuburg 27 (K 27).[1] DesignThe C&C 27 is a small recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with a balsa core deck. It has a masthead sloop rig and a fixed fin keel.[1][2] Operational historyIn a review of the Mark V model Michael McGoldrick wrote, "It's a good sailing boat that will appeal to anyone looking for a C&C in the under 30 foot range, and which has a slightly more modern appearance than the models that were built in the 1970s."[3] Variants
Model in production from 1970 to 1972, with 167 produced. It has an internally-mounted spade-type rudder, displaces {{convert|5180|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|2512|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of lead ballast. The boat has a draft of {{convert|4.25|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the standard keel. The boat is fitted with a Universal Atomic 4 gasoline engine. The boat has a PHRF racing average handicap of 195 with a high of 192 and low of 198. It has a hull speed of {{convert|6.31|kn|km/h|2|abbr=on}}. It was also built with a {{convert|2|ft|m|abbr=on}} taller mast as the Mark I TM.[1][2][4]
Model in production from 1972 to 1974 with 284 built. It has a taller mast with a higher aspect ratio sail plan, an internally-mounted spade-type rudder, displaces {{convert|5500|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|2512|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of lead ballast. The boat has a draft of {{convert|4.50|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the standard keel. The boat has a PHRF racing average handicap of 192 with a high of 196 and low of 189. It has a hull speed of {{convert|6.17|kn|km/h|2|abbr=on}}.[5][6]
Model in production from 1974 to 1981, with 480 produced. It was never marketed as the Mark III at the time of production and this name was applied to the design later on. It has a taller rig, deeper keel with less ballast, an internally-mounted spade-type rudder of higher aspect ratio , displaces {{convert|5500|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|2116|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of lead ballast. Wheel steering was introduced in 1976 and a diesel engine in 1978. The boat has a draft of {{convert|4.75|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the standard keel and {{convert|4.0|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the optional shoal draft keel. The design was initially fitted with a Universal Atomic 4 gasoline engine, although later on the Yanmar SYP 12 diesel engine became standard equipment. The fuel tank holds {{convert|20|u.s.gal}} and the fresh water tank has a capacity of {{convert|24|u.s.gal}}. The boat has a PHRF racing average handicap of 177 with a high of 192 and low of 174. It has a hull speed of {{convert|6.42|kn|km/h|2|abbr=on}}.[7][8]
Model in production 1981 to 1982 with 56 produced. It was identical to the Mark III, expect that the forestay was moved back about {{convert|4|in|cm|0|abbr=on}} to accommodate a bow roller. It has an internally-mounted spade-type rudder, displaces {{convert|5500|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|2116|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of lead ballast. The boat has a draft of {{convert|4.25|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the standard keel. The boat is fitted with a Japanese two-cylinder Yanmar 2GM diesel engine. The boat has a hull speed of {{convert|6.42|kn|km/h|2|abbr=on}}.[9][10]
An all-new design by the C&C Design Group and in production in both the US and Canada starting in 1984. It has a transom-hung rudder, displaces {{convert|4420|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|1715|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of lead ballast. The boat has a draft of {{convert|4.83|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the standard keel and {{convert|3.5|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the optional shoal draft keel. The shoal draft version displaces {{convert|4080|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|2075|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}}. The boat is fitted with a Japanese Yanmar 1GM diesel engine of {{convert|7.5|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}}. The fuel tank holds {{convert|10|u.s.gal}} and the fresh water tank has a capacity of {{convert|15|u.s.gal}}. The boat has a hull speed of {{convert|6.43|kn|km/h|2|abbr=on}}.[11][12] The Mark V was developed into the C&C 26 Wave in 1988, by Robert Ball.[13][14] See also
