He was a two time member of the legislative assembly, representing Masod constituency from 1998 to 2003[1] and Multai constituency from 2013 to 2018.[2] He is also known for his tenure as a M.L.A. of Multai and Masod constituency in the Madhya Pradesh state, when he constructed a series of irrigation projects, village connectivity roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, and drinking water schemes across the constituency. The projects include the Parasdoh Dam and Medium Lift Micro-irrigation Project,[3][4][5] Wardha Medium Lift Micro-irrigation Project,[6] Multai-Bhainsdehi two-lane 83 kilometre cement concrete road,[7] Prabhat Pattan and Athnair Government Hospital, Ayurvedic Tree Park Uttam Sagar,[8] Tapti Sarovar Sever Line Multai,[9] Central School Multai,[10] Prabhat Pattan Tehsil,[11] Mohi Industrial Area Multai.[12]

Due to sanctioning irrigation projects in the constituency, he is sometimes called "Dam Wale Baba".[13]

Background and education

Chandrashekhar Deshmukh was born to Advocate Janrao alias Annasaheb Deshmukh and his wife Shashikala Deshmukh in the Nagpur city of Maharashtra state. His father, Janrao Deshmukh, was an advocate by profession in the Nagpur High court. When Chandrashekhar was two years old, Janrao Deshmukh and his family moved to his dynasty village Parsodi in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

He belongs to Lonari kunbi community. He has a B.A.from Sagar University.

Early political career

He started his political journey by holding a position of Member of Tilhan Utpadak Sahakari Samiti Parsodi in 1983.

  • Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Hirdi from 1988 to 1998. In which one time he elected uncontested.
  • Vice president of Zila Panchayat Betul district from 2005 to 2008.

In the Bharatiya Janata Party he started career from the positions:

  • Mandal Mahamantri, Prabhat Pattan from 1994-1996.
  • Mandal Adhyaksha, Prabhat Pattan from 1996-1998.

Member of Legislative Assembly

In 1998, he contested his first assembly election from BJP on the seat of Masod constituency[14] of Madhya Pradesh state. In it he defeated Ramji Mahajan, Cabinate Minister in the Congress Government then he known as a "Giant Killer".

In 2013, he contested his fourth assembly election from BJP on the seat of Multai constituency of Madhya Pradesh State and won by the margin of 31860 votes.

During his tenure as a Member of Legislative Assembly, he done many projects such as in his constituency as well as rose the issue of land purchasing illegally from the tribal people in his constituency in the assembly house.[15] He includes name of the goddess Maa Tapti into Madhya Pradesh Gaan and Tapti Mahotsava to the Government's event calendar.

Personal life

Chandrashekhar Deshmukh is married to Suhasini Deshmukh. They have two children, Mamta and Gaurav.
