Education and careerAfter receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 2000, Kubrin taught at George Washington University for 11 years; she left George Washington University for UCI in the summer of 2011.[2] In 2016, she and her UCI colleague Carroll Seron served as editors of a special issue of the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science about prison realignment in California.[3] ResearchKubrin's research focuses on, among other topics, the relationship between race, violence, and social disorganization theory. She has also researched the perception of rap music as violent and dangerous, as well as whether a rapper's music can be used as evidence against him in a court of law.[4][5][6][7] With Graham Ousey, she has also studied the relationship between immigration and crime in the United States, finding that immigration is related to lower rates of crime and violence in U.S. neighborhoods.[8] References1. ^{{cite web | url=http://crimeandjusticeresearchalliance.org/experts/charis-kubrin/ | title=Charis Kubrin | work=Crime & Justice Research Alliance | accessdate=24 August 2016}} 2. ^{{cite web | url=http://research.universityofcalifornia.edu/profiles/2012/01/charis-kubrin.html | title=Charis Kubrin | publisher=University of California | work=Research Profiles | date=January 2012 | accessdate=24 August 2016}} 3. ^{{cite web | url=https://psmag.com/california-s-criminal-justice-experiment-15b07de95fed#.nk2a9bre9 | title=California’s Criminal Justice Experiment | work=Pacific Standard | date=24 February 2016 | accessdate=24 August 2016 | author=Wheeling, Kate}} 4. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.ocregister.com/articles/rap-697430-kubrin-says.html | title=UC Irvine hip-hop professor seeks poetic justice | work=Orange County Register | date=28 December 2015 | accessdate=24 August 2016 | author=Puente, Kelly}} 5. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.cbsnews.com/news/rap-in-the-courtroom-advocates-question-lyrics-as-evidence/ | title=Should rap lyrics be allowed as evidence in the courtroom? | work=CBS News | date=12 March 2014 | accessdate=24 August 2016 | author=Donaghue, Erin}} 6. ^{{cite web | url=https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2015/06/19/infamous-street-gang-boasted-videos-violence-and-some-knew-hip-hop-star-benzino/wOUzFCEvks3jGypdTjRGpK/story.html | title=Boston gang used online videos for threats, FBI says | work=Boston Globe | date=19 June 2015 | accessdate=24 August 2016 | author=Ellement, John R.}} 7. ^{{Cite web |url=http://www.slate.com/articles/podcasts/amicus/2014/12/dahlia_lithwick_speaks_with_uc_irvine_criminology_professor_charis_kubrin.html |title=Amicus: Rapper’s Intent |last=Lithwick |first=Dahlia |authorlink=Dahlia Lithwick |website=Slate |publication-date=6 December 2014}} 8. ^{{Cite magazine |last=Kubrin |first=Charis |date=2017-02-07 |title=Immigrants Do Not Increase Crime, Research Shows |url=https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/immigrants-do-not-increase-crime-research-shows/ |magazine=Scientific American |language=en}} External links
