It is located on the border between Cannon County and Rutherford County. HistoryThe house was built for Colonel Charles Ready, a settler, in 1829.[2][3] The house was run as an inn; guests included presidents Andrew Jackson,[2] Martin Van Buren and James K. Polk.[3] Upon Ready's death in 1859, it was inherited by his daughter Jane and her husband, Peter Talley.[3] During the American Civil War, the house was visited by members of both the Confederate States Army and the Union Army.
