He is a co-founder of Tencent, founder of the Chen Yidan Charity Foundation and founder of the Yidan Prize Foundation. EducationChen was born in Huizhou, Guangdong, and grew up in Shenzhen, Guangdong. He obtained a bachelor's degree in applied chemistry from Shenzhen University and a master's degree in economic law from Nanjing University.[1][2] TencentIn 1998, Chen Yidan co-founded the internet holding company Tencent alongside Ma Huateng,[3] Zhang Zhidong,[4] Xu Chenye, and Zeng Liqing.[2][5] He served as the company's chief administrative officer (CAO).[7] In 2006, Chen began leading the company's newly established Tencent Charity Foundation.[6][7][8] In March 2013, Chen stepped down as Tencent's CAO.[9] He continued to be involved with the company as an advisor and as sponsor and honorary chairman of the Tencent Charity Foundation.[10][11][9] PhilanthropyIn March 2013, Chen Yidan founded the Chen Yidan Charity Foundation after stepping down from his role as CAO of Tencent.[12][5] He was recognized as one of China's top philanthropists of 2015 by the China Philanthropy Institute at Beijing Normal University.[13] In 2016, he was recognized on the China Charity Ranking List after donating US $45 million to charitable causes.[14] In June 2017, he was recognized as one of China's top philanthropists by Forbes on their list of Asia's 2017 Heroes of Philanthropy.[15] Wuhan CollegeIn 2009 he invested in Wuhan College and became a school initiator.[16][17] Scholarships were set up in 2010 which encouraged both innovative teaching and excellence in student academics. In 2015, Chen Yidan donated RMB20 million to support the college's library construction and reading material purchases. The focus of the college is on "whole person development" as opposed to a grades driven education which is common in China.[2][18] The Yidan PrizeIn May 2016, Chen launched the Yidan Prize, funded by an independent trust of HK $2.5 billion (US $320 million). The award was established to recognize innovators and those who had made significant contributions to education.[19][20][5][21] The Prize included two annual awards, the Yidan Prize for Education Development and the Yidan Prize for Education Research.[19] Each prize included a cash award of HK $15 million as well as a project fund of HK $15 million, making it the world's largest education award in monetary terms.[19][2] The first Yidan Prize recipients were announced in September 2017. Stanford University professor Carol Dweck received the Yidan Prize for Education Research, and Vicky Colbert, founder and director of Colombian educational organization Fundación Escuela Nueva, received the prize for Education Development.[22][23][24] References1. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.forbes.com/sites/russellflannery/2017/05/22/how-chinas-social-media-giant-tencent-is-shaking-up-traditional-philanthropy/2/#5f2061667f1e|title=How China's Social Media Giant Tencent Is Shaking Up Traditional Philanthropy|last=Flannery|first=Russell|work=Forbes|access-date=2018-07-03|language=en}} {{Tencent}}{{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Chen, Yidan}}2. ^1 2 3 {{Cite news|url=https://www.bbc.com/news/business-38639891|title=Chinese billionaire offers biggest education prize|date=2017-01-18|work=The BBC|access-date=2017-09-21|language=en}} 3. ^{{Cite web|url=http://time.com/money/5033219/meet-the-mysterious-billionaire-whose-social-media-company-has-become-more-valuable-than-facebook/|title=Meet the Mysterious Billionaire Whose Social Media Company Has Become More Valuable Than Facebook|website=Money|language=en|access-date=2018-07-03}} 4. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.forbes.com/sites/russellflannery/2014/03/19/low-profile-china-internet-billionaire-zhang-zhidong-leaves-tencents-board-cto-job/#516a0e889c1b|title=Low-Profile China Internet Billionaire Zhang Zhidong Leaves Tencent's Board, CTO Job|last=Flannery|first=Russell|work=Forbes|access-date=2018-07-03|language=en}} 5. ^1 2 {{Cite news|url=https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/13/charles-chen-china-most-charitable-man.html|title=How the co-founder of one of Asia’s biggest tech companies became China’s most charitable man|last=Musaddique|first=Shafi|date=2018-07-06|work=CNBC|access-date=2018-08-13}} 6. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.tencent.com/en-us/abouttencent.html|title=Tencent 腾讯 -
