Child of Fire is a 2009 urban fantasy novel by Harry Connolly. It was first published by Del Rey Books. SynopsisEx-convict Raymond Lilly and magician Annalise Powiss must save a small town from a supernatural menace that is not only killing the town's children via spontaneous combustion, but erasing them from the memories of survivors. ReceptionPublishers Weekly considered that it was "intense"[1] and would "enthrall readers",[2] including it on their list of the 100 best books of 2009. BoingBoing called it "witty and fast-paced",[3]SF Signal noted its "rapid pace", but was ultimately far more negative, calling the novel "(m)ediocre at best and painful at worst", and particularly criticizing Connolly for "lack of consistent characterization" and an "erratic" and "extremely repetitive" plot.[4] Strange Horizons observed that the book "feels as if it were itself a sequel, giving the reader the sense of coming in at the second volume of a series", with previous interactions between Raymond and Annalis "only alluded to".[5]References1. ^[https://web.archive.org/web/20091104221351/http://www.publishersweekly.com/article/CA6704595.html Best Books of 2009] at Publishers Weekly; published November 2, 2009; retrieved January 6, 2019, via archive.org 2. ^[https://www.publishersweekly.com/978-0-345-50889-8 Child of Fire], reviewed at Publishers Weekly; published August 3, 2009; retrieved January 6, 2019 3. ^[https://boingboing.net/2012/03/26/ebook-review-child-of-fire.html eBook review: Child of Fire], by Jason Weisberger; published March 26, 2012; retrieved December 6, 2019 4. ^[https://www.sfsignal.com/archives/2009/11/review_child_of_fire_by_harry_connolly/ REVIEW: Child of Fire by Harry Connolly], by Patrick Wolohan, at SF Signal; published November 9, 2009; retrieved January 6, 2019 5. ^Game of Cages by Harry Connolly, reviewed by William Mingin, at Strange Horizons; published February 21, 2011; retrieved January 6, 2019 External links
