He was born into a Catholic family as well as converted to Islam in 1979.[1] Early lifeYahya Bonaud Christian was born in 1957 into a family Catholic, in 1957 in Freiburg im Breisgau in Germany. Because of his father's career, he lived in Germany and Algeria until the age of 10, then moved to Strasbourg.[2] Bonnaud became acquainted with the works of René Guénon , a French Muslim philosopher and under the influence of his works, he converted to Islam in 1979.[3] Then he began to study in Arabic language[4] and literature and on Islamology that led him to read the writings of Henri Corbin[5] about Shia. With the guidance of Amadou Hampâté Bâ , African Gnostic and spiritual leader of Tidjanism, he reconverted to Shia[6], adopting the name of Yahya. Yahya Banaud did his doctoral dissertation on Imam Khomeini, entitled " The Philosophical Works of Imam Khomeini ", a thesis reprinted and published as a book under the title " An Unknown Gnostic of the 20th Century ". During the writing of his thesis, the professor spent seven years in Iran and passed some courses as a student of Sayyed Jalal-ed-Din Ashtiani.[7] Works
