Wiśniewski ({{IPA-pl|viɕˈɲɛfskʲi}}; feminine: Wiśniewska, plural Wiśniewscy) is the third most common surname in Poland (111,174 people in 2009).[1] The name roughly translates to "from the town of the cherry tree". The English transliterated equivalent Vishnevski is common among other Slavic people: Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians and others. In non-slavic Romania, the name took the Latin derived suffix –escu, as Vișinescu (or Vișnescu), and in Lithuania is Vyšniauskas.
