The event was first produced in 2014 and draws presenters and attendees from throughout the midwest and the nation. HistoryThe Food + Wine Classic was first held in 2014[1] as a two-day event at Washington Park in the Over-the-Rhine[1] historic district[3] and expanded to three days for the 2015 event.[4] Former Cincinnati Magazine dining editor Donna Covrett[2][6] and local food writer Courtney Tsitouris[2][6] developed the Classic to "showcase local and regional talent"[1][3][2] and to "celebrate (the city's) Porkopolis heritage."[1][3] More than 80 chefs participated in 2014[3] and over 100 in 2015.[4][5] ProgramThe event includes competitions, tastings, demonstrations, workshops, book signings, and classes offered by chefs, sommeliers, mixologists, winemakers, brewers, distillers, and food writers.[17][6] The event kicks off each year with "Pork Chopped," a competition among chefs to create the best dish[3] using "the meat that made Cincinnati famous."[17] AttendanceThe Food + Wine Classic draws chefs[2][4][7][8][9] and food writers from throughout the midwest and across the country.[1][2][17][10][11][12][13] The 2014 inaugural event "exceeded expectations,"[14] drawing more than 2,000 attendees[17] who had paid ticket prices of $100 - $400[15] for "festival-style"[15] (or all-inclusive) access to food and beverage offerings, and resulting in the event running out of food.[14][16] ReceptionThe event "attracted an overflow crowd"[17] in 2014.
