IncidentsSchool district treasury theftOn January 22, 2010, former superintendent Todd Helms, who was superintendent from 2002 until 2008,[2] was charged with stealing $295,081 from the district.[3] He pleaded guilty and received a sentence of 8 years in prison and restitution. On May 13, 2015, Helms was released, after serving five years of his original sentence,[4] due to factors including "the nonviolent nature of his offenses and the fact that he's paid a substantial amount of the restitution he [owed]."[5] As of May 17, 2015, Helms still owed $32,500. David StubblebineIn November 2014, superintendent David Stubblebine was reprimanded by the Clyde-Green Springs school board for engaging in an undisclosed long-term romantic relationship with a district principal for whom he was responsible for writing performance evaluations.[6] In December 2014, Stubblebine was charged with a second-degree misdemeanor of "obstructing official business" after allegedly refusing to cooperate with Clyde police who were called to McPherson Middle School when school officials found a student in possession of marijuana.[7] Stubblebine justified his actions to the school board, claiming innocence by stating that his actions "were performed while acting within the scope of his employment by the board of education as superintendent and in the good-faith belief that such conduct was lawful and in the best interests of the district and its students."[8] Stubblebine went on trial in June 2015 in the Sandusky County Common Pleas Court. The case was dismissed by Judge John Kolesar.
