It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.[1] It is a log structure built in 1919 by local homesteader Elwood Brouse. It was used as a school from 1919 to 1971 and was used for church services and Sunday school until 1985.[2] After the road was relocated, the school was dismantled and moved in 1926 about {{convert|1.5|mi|km}} southwest to its current location, where the new road crosses Coates Creek. It was expanded somewhat when rebuilt but was still one room. In 1942 it was expanded by addition of a cloakroom and the interior was lined by plywood.[2] References1. ^1 {{NRISref|version=2013a}} {{National Register of Historic Places}}{{Colorado-NRHP-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite web|url={{NRHP url|id=92001839}}|title=National Register of Historic Places Inventory/Nomination: Coates Creek Schoolhouse |publisher=National Park Service|author= |date= |accessdate=July 22, 2018}} With {{NRHP url|id=92001839|photos=y|title=accompanying six photos from 1992}} 5 : One-room schoolhouses|Schools in Colorado|Log buildings and structures|National Register of Historic Places in Mesa County, Colorado|Buildings and structures completed in 1919 |
