Volcanic and seismic monitoring sitesThe Colombian Geological Survey operates a network of volcanic and seismic observatories throughout the Colombia which are located in Manizales, Popayán, and Pasto.[8] Volcanic and Seismic Observatory of ManizalesThe volcanic and seismic observatory in Manizales was established in 1985, post the Armero tragedy, to monitor the Nevado del Ruiz volcano.[9] Volcanic and Seismic Observatory of PopayánThe volcanic and seismic observatory in Popayán was established in 1990 to monitor the Nevado del Huila volcano complex. Today, the observatory also constantly monitors the Puracé and Sotará volcanoes.[10] Volcanic and Seismic Observatory of PastoThe volcanic and seismic observatory in Pasto was established to monitor the Galeras volcano following its reactivation in 1989. Today, the observatory also monitors the Chiles and the Cerro Negro de Mayasquer volcanoes on the international border between Colombia and Ecuador, and the Azufral, Cumbal, and Doña Juana volcanoes in the Department of Nariño.[11] José Royo y Gómez Geological MuseumThe Colombian Geological Survey runs a network of museums located in Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali which are named after José Royo y Gómez, a Spaniard geologist who was forced into exile in Colombia during the Spanish Civil War. His contribution to the study of geology in Colombia can be traced back all the way to the days of the foundation of the geological survey as he was called to take part of the newly created Servicio Geológico Nacional de Colombia just nine days after his arrival to the country. Throughout José Royo y Gómez' time at the SGNC, he directed various commissions where he continued his investigations and promoting the study of natural sciences in Colombia.[12] References1. ^{{cite web |first= Armando B |last= Espinosa|title= Breve Historia del Servicio Geológico Colombiano |url= https://www2.sgc.gov.co/Nosotros/AcercaDelSgc/Paginas/Historia.aspx |date=|publisher= Colombian Geological Service |accessdate=January 26, 2019}} 2. ^{{cite web|title=presupuesto_ingeominas_asignado_vigencia-(1).xls|url=http://www.sgc.gov.co/getattachment/Nosotros/Planes,-Presupuesto-y-Gestion/Presupuesto/presupuesto_ingeominas_asignado_vigencia-(1).xls.aspx|date=6 Apr 2009|accessdate=26 Feb 2015|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20150227000856/http://www.sgc.gov.co/getattachment/Nosotros/Planes,-Presupuesto-y-Gestion/Presupuesto/presupuesto_ingeominas_asignado_vigencia-(1).xls.aspx|archivedate=27 Feb 2015}} 3. ^{{Cite web |url=https://www.osti.gov/biblio/22608526-improvement-analytical-capabilities-neutron-activation-analysis-laboratory-colombian-geological-survey |title=Improvement of analytical capabilities of neutron activation analysis laboratory at the Colombian Geological Survey |last=Parrado |first=G. |last2=Cañón |first2=Y. |date=7 July 2016 |website=AIP Conference Proceedings |publisher=Office of Scientific and Technical Information, United States Department of Energy |location=United States |language=en-US |publication-place=United States |doi=10.1063/1.4955380 |access-date=2019-02-03 |last3=Peña |first3=M. |last4=Sierra |first4=O. |last5=Porras |first5=A. |last6=Alonso |first6=D. |last7=Herrera |first7=D.
