The Cotton Palace was an exhibition ground in the area of Clay Avenue, Dutton Avenue and South Sixteenth Street in Waco, Texas, It was built to highlight cotton-growing activities in the area. Following a campaign where Waco residents raised $40,000 to build the facility,[1] the Cotton Palace was opened on November 8, 1894. Governor James Hogg in attendance for the opening day, which began a month of festivities.[2] However, in January 1895, a fire closed the facility until 1910.
